Hello, friends. Today we’ll sum up everything we  discussed during the previous lessons. We’ll speak about the things which are topical for modern teenagers. As you can understand we are going to speak about the problems of teens, that is generation gap.

  1. III.

I’d like to start our lesson today with the following quotation:

“Adolescents are not monsters. They are just people trying to learn how to make it among the adults in the world, who are probably not so sure of themselves”

Do you agree with this statement?

They say that nowadays teenagers are generally rude and badly brought up. Do you agree?  What in your opinion are modern teens like? What are their ambitions? What are they really keen on?

Thank you very much, friends. You’ve expressed your opinion on today’s teens and think that they are not that bad, they are just growing up. I’ve asked two students to play the role of psychologists who will speak about the problems of teenagers and analyze them.

What can you add to the presentation?

To an adolescent there is nothing in the world more embarrassing than a parent. – These are the words pronounced by a British teenager. Do you agree with them?

What do young people argue with their parents about?

1)     Now a group of students will role-play a conversation between a teenage daughter, а teenage son and their parents. The rest of you will represent parents (group 1), teens (group 2), psychologists and teachers (group 3). Each group should listen and comment on behalf of their characters. What was wrong/right in the characters’ behavior?

2)     I’d like you to speak about the same problem from children’s and parents’ point of  view.

Listen and give advice:

-         How саn people find a compromise? What should you do if you want to have good relations with your family members?

-        What are ideal parents?

-        A lot of teens want to be independent. What does independence mean?

They argue about teenager fashion, friends, the way of spending free time, school, school marks, pocket money, etc.

e.g. P1: I don’t think that parents behaved in the right way. If I were a parent, I’d never give pocket money for household chores.

P2: I don’t agree with you. How can children earn money, in your opinion?, etc.

  1. VII.

Thanks a lot for your opinions. They are really valuable. All these problems seem important only if you are healthy. Now I’d like you to see a short film about a boy who has a serious problem. Watch it and say what is the most important thing for a person to be happy.

What feelings did you experience while watching this film?

e.g.  The film is really touching. While watching it I experienced the  feeling of sorrow for the boy. He is a real optimist. Etc.

  1. VIII.

You are right saying that the most important thing for people to be in good relations with everybody is to be positive and tolerant. Are you tolerant? Do you try to meet your parents, teachers, friends half way?

1)     Now, friends, we are going to play tolerance game. You should choose somebody out of your group mates who has something in common with you. I’ll start:

e.g. I choose … because we both like travelling.

2)     Imagine that there is an unusual shop in our town – the shop where you can buy traits of character. What character traits would you buy?

e.g. P1: I choose … because we both live in the same street.

P2: I choose … because we are fond of playing football., etc.

e.g. P1 - I would buy modesty. I think I’m rather impudent.

P2 - I’d buy a little bravery. I am afraid of mice, spiders, frogs., etc.

  1. IX.

You know that to make people happy you should tell them something good, positive, make a declaration of love. That is why I ask you to compose a universal love poem with the help of some prompts. You’ve got 1 minute at your disposal.

Song.

(Spotlight 9, p.SS3)

When I’m sad or feeling blue

There’s one thing I love to do

I play songs I love to hear

Then my problems disappear

I love music, feel the beat

Clap your hands and stamp your feet

Feel the rhythm, jump and shout

That’s what music’s all about

When I play my favourite song

I can dance and sing along

All my troubles fly away

I feel everything’s okay

When I’m dancing, I feel fine

I feel like the whole world’s mine

Everything’s all right with me

When the music sets me free.

Yesterday my classmates and I went to the Internet café to play a new computer game. It was a real fun and I came home quite late. My mum got really angry.

How often do you go to the Internet cafes, if at all? What computer games do you and your friends like to play? Are your parents angry when you play computer games? Why?
